The brightly glowing plumes seen in this image are reminiscent of an underwater scene, with turquoise-tinted currents and nebulous strands reaching out into the surroundings. However, this is no ocean.
This illustration shows a 'hot Jupiter' planet known as HD 189733b orbiting its star, HD 189733. The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope measured the actual visible light colour of the planet, which is deep blue.
Originally suspected to be the first directly detected planet outside our Solar System follow up observations have shown that the object is most likely a background star whose light is has been dimmed and reddened by interstellar dust.
This image shows the planet K2-18B, it's host star and an accompanying planet in this system.
This image features the spiral galaxy NGC 691, imaged in fantastic detail by Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3).
The atmosphere of the distant warm Neptune HAT-P-26b, illustrated here in an artist’s impression, is unexpectedly primitive, composed primarily of hydrogen and helium.
